I absolutely adore 30% of this book. The rest of it however perpetuated too much my ongoing hypothesis of "short stories" as the highbrow cocktease, literature's dirty little secret that short stories are not really stories that are short, but a mostly nebulous collection of creative writing exercises. No amount of imaginative metaphors, stylish descriptors, and abstract prose could make up for the lack of material beneath the magical masquerade. Again, I love 30% of this book - exploring the profound ideas and theoretical insight surrounding the mind's creativity - and that 30% deserves the highest praise.
